Solar Storm

Back in 1859.
Society back then did not notice the storm the way it would today.
The telegraph was 15 years old.
There were no satellite TV feeds, no automated teller machines relying on orbiting relay stations, and no power grids.
During the 1859 flare-up, solar observers logged almost an entire minute during which the amount of sunlight doubled at the region of the flare.

The end of the world (Dec 21, 2012) draws near there will be "End of the World" parties all over the world.

There will also be multitudes who in desperation will pray to the sun not to destroy humankind. is nothing our scientists can do to prevent a solar storm.

And there is nothing scientists can do to protect our power grid and communication satellites from the perfect solar storm. We are as helpless and impotent as our ancestors who prayed to the sun deity for good crops.
